BILL BOOSTS SCOTT POWER OVER JNCs

By the News Service of Florida

Gov. Rick Scott would have the power to push out members of the state's judicial nominating commissions appointed by Gov. Charlie Crist under a measure sponsored by Sen. David Simmons, R-Maitland. The measure, Senate Bill 1570, was filed Friday. It would specify that all JNC members directly appointed by the governor "shall serve at the pleasure of the governor." Scott directly appoints five members of the nine-seat JNCs, with the other four selections coming from a list of nominees provided by the board of the Florida Bar.
