Rock named interim DMS secretary

Erin Rock, who has been chief of staff at the Florida Department of Management Services for nearly a year, was named interim secretary Wednesday by Gov. Rick Scott as a search is underway for the agency's next leader. Rock will serve in the interim position starting March 31, when department Secretary Chad Poppell exits for what he has called a private sector opportunity. The Department of Management Services oversees state-government issues such as human resources, procurement and real estate. Rock has been chief of staff since May 2016. Prior to joining the state agency, Rock was a staff director in the Florida House of Representatives under former House Speaker Dean Cannon. She has also served as director of communications for the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Children and Families.
