SCOTT: TOLD YOU SO ON HIGH SPEED RAIL COST OVERRUNS

By the News Service of Florida

Gov. Rick Scott said Tuesday that a new report about a cost overrun for high speed rail in California vindicates his decision to nix an inter-city bullet train in Florida earlier this year. A report in California this week said a proposed San Francisco-Los Angeles train would cost nearly $100 billion, about triple earlier estimates, proved he was right – that the same would have happened here."The news today out of California that High Speed Rail cost estimates have now tripled to the $100 billion range reinforces that Florida made the right decision earlier this year to protect taxpayers from just this sort of boondoggle," Scott said in a statement released by his office. "As I said at the time, High Speed Rail would be far too costly to taxpayers and I believe the risk far outweighs the benefits.  I’m glad Florida is no longer entangled in the high speed spending web."  When Florida rejected federal money for the rail, some of that went to California.
